With 27,000 respondents, swing state and national poll will be ten times the size of most political polls
WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, a group of Democratic supporters announced a supersized poll designed to let the voters vote on the method for selecting the Democratic nominee for the presidency.
Long-time Biden supporters like George Clooney, experienced Democratic strategists like James Carville, respected political observers like Ezra Klein and many others have advocated for an open process to select the next nominee. A large-scale swing state and national poll will allow voters to express their preferences.
Voters will have the opportunity to vote on (1) how old the next president should be; and (2) whether they want former President Trump or President Biden to withdraw from the race. If President Biden decides to step aside, do they want him to declare an open primary or endorse a specific candidate? The poll will also ask which process they believe would result in the strongest candidate and alternative to the current Republican nominee.
The new mega-poll will survey voters nationally and in seven swing states. It is being conducted by Emerson College and sponsored by Democrats for the Next Generation (DemNextGen.com). Fielded in three waves, each wave will consist of 1,000 respondents in each swing state, including Pennsylvania, Georgia, North Carolina, Michigan, Arizona, Wisconsin, and Nevada, plus 2,000 respondents nationally, for a total of 27,000 respondents over the three waves.
The poll will oversample Democratic voters and include projectable numbers of independent and Republican voters. It is large enough to provide reliable figures for sub-groups by age, gender, race, motivation and likelihood of voting.
If the president decides to step aside and the DNC organizes one or more town halls prior to the Democratic convention, DemNextGen will sponsor another mega-poll immediately following each town hall to allow the voters to inform the convention delegates of their preferences.
DemNextGen is a political action committee founded in February 2024 by Bill Harris of Miami, Florida, and other loyal Democratic donors. It is separate from and unrelated to the similarly named Next Generation PAC. DemNextGen does not endorse or support any individual candidates; instead, it supports the principles of public discourse and voter participation. It is committed to supporting the Democratic nominee regardless of the process by which the nominee is determined.
